He can fight at some point, he can hunt at level 3, he can discover interesting sites at some point, so yeah, he's worth it. Marathon is good. I use it with the perk that makes any boots you've repaired yourself drain 20% less stamina. So I'm 20% faster, but my stamina drain is a wash.
