Single coil should get a nice growly tone, while sounding a little thinner. Parallel will have nice low end,with a snappy , tight high end.
I have a Sterling StingRay 5 and I'm looking to upgrade the pickup as I figure that's the best upgrade I can make to improve the overall sound. Looking for something that is low/moderate output and has more highs and mids. Nothing super heavy, high output, or bassy. I play rock and pop type stuff, no metal.

I would lean towards sterling because i have hands that have trouble reaching around the thickness of a p or stingray neck. If you, however, are aiming at the "classic stingray" tone then you probably ought to get the classic stingray or the 40th anniversary version. HH is my fav, the original tone is right there, as well as the most options.
